Birthday Skirt!

My friend Rachel is throwing a 2yr old birthday party for her daughter Brooklyn.  (We unfortunately will be missing it because of David's graduation.)   I wanted to make her something fun to wear so I came up with this skirt.  I bought Got the fabric at JoAnns Etc. (With coupons money is tight.)  The pattern was from Grace Violet, I tweaked the pattern a little thought.  I made the panels skinnier and shorter to make it more full.  Then I added the 2 layers of tulle in two different colors.  What 2yr old wouldn't love to wear this!  I absolutely love it that I wish I could make one for myself.

Homemade Kite

All Luke has been talking about is flying a kite.  When David was home for week after finals he took it upon himself to make one for Luke.  He looked up some directions on the internet and gathered the materials and set to work.  We later went to the park and to try it out.  Unfortunately it didn't work as well as we had hoped but Luke and Logan had a blast running with the kite flying behind them!

Pin Cushion

 

 Check out my new pin cushion I made last night.  I love it!  It's really BIG because I have a TON of pins. ( You can never have enough.)  I got the idea from Grace Violet and she got the pattern from Better Homes and Gardens.  I think next time I might fill it will rice instead to make it heavier.  

But it is cute just them same!

I finished!

I finished!  So after a long road of putting off finishing the quilt I finally finished.  Thank goodness.  It looks amazing, of course I am biased but I love that it is called a crazy quilt because anything goes. The stitching is uneven it makes it very unique.  I thinks I want to make another one.  I know Logan does because he kept wanting to use this one.  Until another craft.

Another Find!

I am totally on a craft high!  I was reading Right at Home a friend of mines blog about DIY home decorating  projects and crafts.  I love this site mainly because I love Jamie and her sisters style!  But she just posted about some really cute felt hair clips, but if you don't have a girl to dress up you can dress up yourself and embellish your stuff check it out the tutorial here.

Crafts, Crafts and More Crafts

The weather has been so fabulous and yes I mean fabulous. (I love the rain!)  It makes me stay at home and work on things that I need to do.  Some of the things on my to do list have been putting together a first baby care kit for my sister-in-law Karli.  (Karli if you are reading this don't look at the pictures!)  I have to say that I was a tad disappointed that they were not having a girl (all of you know how much I want a girl) but a new baby is just as exciting.  So I wanted to make some burp cloths that I saw a friend of mine make for her daughter and son, made from snuggly flannel. So I went to JoAnns and got 6 different fabrics and went to work.  I think that they turned out so cute! 

Luke was also going to a birthday party for his Avery.  I made her a Valentine's Day skirt and another with a yellow print and ladybugs fabric.  I made a matching bag to go with and cute fabric flower, but of course I forgot to take a picture but I plan to make another so I take a picture then!

I don't know if any of you knew but Luke is obsessed with pirates!  So I decided to make a Skull and Crossbone backpack.  What do you think?  I wanted to have a little more polished, but hey it was my first one and imperfection is totally in right now.  He loves it anyway!

My last project is a Scrappy-Scrappy quilt, again for sister-in-law Karli.  My mom was a little skeptical but I love how the topper turned out.  When the final project is finished I will post a picture.

Grace Violet

When it comes to reading blogs I usually just read my friends and that is about it.  But I always here of people finding great ideas from other people.  So I was searching online to find a tutorial to make a really cute skirt for a friend of Luke's for her birthday and I came across this site Grace Violet.  I have a new love!  She gave great tutorials on how to make a skirt out of a pillow case and dress, cute fabric buckets to store toys, decorating ideas DIY.  It is awesome!  Check it out ladies I think that you will be inspired too.

Christmas Advent Calendar

I had been looking for a more Christ centered advent calendar to do with Luke this year and I found one from The Friend magazine.  You read a scripture everyday and then tells you do an act of service with it.   I thought it was very well put together and  Luke loves it!  Click here to view it, maybe you could use it yourself next year.
